South Kalimantan is one of the 27 province in Indonesia or one of 4 provinces in Kalimantan (formely called Borneo). It lies between 114° 19’13" western longitude and 11° 33’30" eastern longitude, between 1° 21’49" northern lattitude and 44° 10’14" southern lattitude. The province is bordered with East Kalimantan at the north, with Maccasar Strait at the east, with Java Sea at the south and with West Kalimantan and Central Kalimantan at the west. South Kalimantan Province covers the area of 37.000 km2, with 57% or about 21.000 km2 forest and mountain range with 1.000 to 1.500 metres altitude above sea level. The northern and central regions are mountain range which Meratus range, at the west lowland and swamp at the east forest and grassland. South Kalimantan is often called the province of thousand river; Barito River is the largest river in Indonesia.
One of its tributary is Martapura River and this river had two tributary rivers and they are Riam Kanan River and Riam Kiwa River. It branches with Negara River which branches in Lese River. Other important river are Maluka River, Tabanio River, Sawangan River, Asam-asam River, Batu Licin River, Sampahan and Cengal River.
All the rivers run right from Meratus range and go trought Java Sea, Maccasar Strait and Selat Sea.
